To support Namibia's transition to an industrialized economy which includes a strong green energy sector, the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector must focus on qualifications that align with industry demands. However, challenges persist, including outdated curricula, inadequate infrastructure, and a shortage of qualified instructors.
To address these issues, the previous phase of the Bremen-Namibia cooperation, focused on assessing TVET gaps and developing an "Industrial Mechatronics" qualification through the project “Vocational Training on Green Energy in Namibia (PN: 22.2235.4-110)”. This qualification integrates mechanical, electrical, and digital automation training, essential for supporting existing industries such as solar, wind energy but also food processing as well as emerging ones like hydrogen production.
This project will contribute to establish this qualification in Namibia’s TVET sector. A key element will be the training of vocational school teachers. The project aims at training a critical mass of instructors to equipped them in a way that they are able to train future
technicians, creating a sustainable skills pipeline for the Namibian economy.
Project goal
A key step regarding the establishment of an industrial mechatronics technician qualification in Namibia has been realized through training of TVET trainers in at least 3 Namibian VTCs.
