Situation in Ukraine:
The ongoing war in Ukraine is having a devastating impact on the civilian population and infrastructure. Healthcare systems and rehabilitation services are particularly affected, especially in the department of prosthetics. It is estimated that between 20,000 and 50,000 people have undergone amputations since the war began and there is an acute defect in prostheses, qualified specialists and psychosocial care. The reconstruction of Ukraine requires the strengthening of rehabilitation capacities and the adaptation of training standards to the increased demand in order to enable those affected to return to a stable social and economic life.
Co-operation:
The project is being implemented as part of the regional partnership between North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) and the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast in Ukraine and is co-financed by the NRW State Chancellery. It supports the expansion of the Solonyy Lyman rehabilitation hospital into a regional centre of excellence for prosthetics and orthopaedics. The implementation partners are Human Study e.V., Duisburg Hospital and other German and Ukrainian stakeholders.
Project goals and measures:
