Virtual Study Trip: Solar solutions for agriculture
The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy cooperate in the project ‘Solar applications for agriculture in Nigeria– Technology transfer’. It is part of the German Government and Federal States programme, a programme in which the German government and the federal states of Germany facilitate joint development cooperation projects.
The project focuses on innovative technology-based solutions for agriculture in Nigeria. A special focus will be set on solar-based solutions for an improved effectivity and efficiency of farming and food processing. The project will provide selected experts and managers from Nigeria with the necessary knowledge for planning and implementing solar-based solutions along the whole agricultural value chain.
This event is the first of the four components: a virtual study tour, which offers the participants the opportunity to get to know technological solutions and to get into direct exchange with each other and with Bavarian actors. The study trip includes individual modules and training on topics such as solar drying and cooling, agro-photovoltaics, solar pumps, energy storage, energy cooperatives, financing and innovative business models. In addition, Bavarian companies will present their solutions and there will be an opportunity to directly arrange individual B2B meetings.
On the Bavarian side, the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Rural Development and Energy (StMWI) is the main project partner; on the Nigerian side, representatives and experts of companies in the agricultural and energy sector, representatives of FMARD, regional and local municipalities and representatives of universities are involved. Furthermore, representatives of industry associations (e.g. Chamber of Commerce in Lagos and Abuja) and of public authorities (e.g. Rural Electrification Agency) will take part.
